I think that laughtracks are stupid and they assume the audience is stupid.

Q:

February 16, 2001

Dear Answerman,

Excellent inputs! Question: In the last scene of that movie, what is the meaning of the birth of that baby? Thanks a lot,

Pedro A

A:

Dear Pedro A,

I think it's perfectly fine for women to wear pantsuits. In the past, it wasn't, but now there is no real difference. In fact, some pantsuits are more stylish than skirts.

Q:

February 15, 2001

Dear Answerman,

My question seems like a simple one but I have yet to get an answer. So here goes
If this country (USA) is owned by the people and the money we print is also owned by the people. Why do we then give it to a few bankers who charge the owners interest on their own money.
And the second part of the question is why has the Federal Reserve never been audited.

Don A

A:

Dear Don A,

No, no, you misunderstand me. When I said that he was an idiot, I really meant that you were an idiot.

Q:

February 15, 2001

Dear Answerman,

I have a bet going with my boyfriend concerning the lyrics to the McDonald's jingle that starts out: "Big Mac, Filleta Fish, Quarter Pounder, French Fries....."
I need to know (and have proof) as to what the remainder of the lyrics are. I think it's "Icy Cokes, thick shakes, sundaes and apple pies." He thinks it's "Icy Drinks, thick shakes, sundaes, and apple pies."
Can you solve this dilemma for us?

Joani N

A:

Dear Joani N,

Getting your kids to volunteer is an excellent way to help spend their free time. Not only can you spend time with them, but you can teach them valuable lessons and help other people at the same time.

woodrow

A:

Dear woodrow,

Just because it looks suspicious to you doesn't necessarily mean that there is any true malicious intent behind his actions. Please don't do anything rash. Talk it over with somebody else first.

Q:

February 13, 2001

Dear Answerman,

In the movie Corso unravels the secret, to entry into what? I am thinking HELL, but what is your opinion. Also does Corso attain immortality, is he a free being or a servant of Satan? Oh yes before I go , are you a believer or are you a religious person. Thank`s for your time,

Marty.

A:

Dear Marty,

If it's that important to you, you should put it on vibrate. Understand that the people around you do not appreciate having to listen to your telephone ring as they are watching a movie. I am in the process of drafting legislation that, during a movie, would allow people to grab hold of a beeper or cell phone that goes off and throw it as hard as they can against the wall. Look for it; HR-BITEME.

Q:

February 13, 2001

Dear Answerman,

Is "Down & Under" an upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer film?

LSAmster99

A:

Dear LSAmster99,

The whole thing is a wonderful marketing ploy. Think about it-it is not the year 2142. So while nobody knows (yet) who killed Evan Chan, it sure is fun trying to figure it out (even better if you have multiple PhDs and way too much time on your hands).

Dear PANDERSON86,

It's easy to tie. Just remember, the rabbit comes out of the hole, goes around the tree, then goes back into the hole.

Q:

February 12, 2001

I have a question. I went into your web site, and still, could not get what I wanted. I am looking for the actor's information, who appeared on "Insider". (Al Pachino's) This is the guy who played one of securities guy on that movie. He was the only one who introduced his name in that movie. He was African American, very tall. I think he introduced his name as "John Telepharrow(Telefarow?? I have no idea for its spelling)." Anyway, if you see that movie, you will see there is only one black man who played as a security gurd for Russel Crow in that movie. I had no way to find his real (or stage) name. Please tell me his name and information!!

Best regards,

Saho M

A:

Dear Saho M,

Your friend is right. It really is none of your business. Just let her know that you're there for her, and if she feels like confiding in you then she will.

DEAR ANSWERMAN,

WHO RECORDED "GHOST OF A DOG" AND IS NOW MARRIED TO PAUL SIMON?

KAMIDAWG1974

A:

Dear KAMIDAWG1974,

It's up to you whether you want your kids to help pick the house. On one hand, it's the parent's decision. It is their money, and their responsibility. On the other hand, you want your kids to be comfortable, since moving can be a traumatic experience. They may have some things that they absolutely will not tolerate in a new house, or something they must have.

Q:

February 6, 2001

Dear Answerman;

I have an imported wool rug from India. It was shipped in the original wrapping from India--I have had it two years. Right from the beginning I noticed a pesky little golden flying insect that was always around my rug. I sprayed and used bug bombs and found them dead but more would return. Now I discover that I can pull large tufts of fiber from my rug--they are no longer attached at the backing. I think this golden fly is some kind of moth that eats the fibers from below. If this is so, do I have larvae or actual worms buried in my rug? and is there anyway to get rid of these? I'm worried they will attack other natural fibers (wool and cotton) in my house. My rug is not 'completely' destroyed--can I get rid of them? Would really appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks so much,

Julie

A:

Dear Julie,

I'm not really one for wearing button collar shirts with ties. The only time I like this is when it's a hidden button. If you wear a tie, stick with a collar with no visible buttons. It looks much nattier. I'm pretty ambivalent towards spread collars, or the longer ones. Just make sure that if you wear a spread collar you tie a larger knot. The only time I suggest wearing a button down collar is in a less formal setting.

BENNY C

A:

Dear Benny C.,

Please remember that at your age, investing should be considered a very long term thing to think about. yes, the market is going to go down, but then it will go up. Then down again, and back up. Don't fret all these movements, no matter how dramatic. Just sit tight, and if anything, buy the next time the market dips.

Q:

February 3, 2001

I bet you cannot find the answer to this...if you do I will eat my words:) I have been told that it is a true known fact that pigs are a man made animal (animal husbandry) I looked, searched everywhere to find where they come from...get this they say that they are made up of rat, cat, dog and have many many worms. I wonder if this is true or not.

Help,

Dear Betty,

I love watching those FOX promos for Sunday night. The announcer has this nice bouncy, happy voice for all those cartoons in prime time, then in a split-second he lowers it and slows down to announce The X-Files.

I am considering buying a '98 Toyota 4Runner that is a salvaged/ reconditioned vehicle. It looks great and is just what I want, I think, and the price is about 3-4K less than other '98's. The mileage is only 33K. There doesn't seem to be any advice that I can find on the internet. I have my mechanic looking at it in the morning - a complete check-up, and the seller says he'll pay for an allignment check. The seller is guaranteeing the engine and transmission for 6000 miles. The car is very clean and is one of many this dealer/rebuilder has in his warehouse. All are Japanese cars and they all look beautiful, so this is not just a mechanic doing this in a small way, but a professional operation, it seems. My question is: what should I look out for when buying this vehicle: ie; title, etc. Any advice?

ALONE4THEROAD

A:

Dear ALONE4THEROAD,

Next time you go out, you may want to invest in some gallon size ziploc-type bags. When you pack your pack, put all your clothes inside these bags, and kneel on them to get the air out. Then, you can stack them anywhere in your pack, and if it rains or if you walk through a river, your clothes will stay dry. They also stay inside your pack, so you don't look like a dry fool. At night, you can use them as pillows, and the best part is the additional weight is negligible.

NekCuttR

A:

Dear NekCuttR,

I certainly do not condone that kind of behavior. I'm sure most other people don't either. Just like I don't condone the needless kicking of little children (unless absolutely necessary), voting Peace and Freedom and/or Reform, and shameless advertising (like if I were to tell you to read Mongoose's extra special review of "Gabriela."- it's movie-riffic!).

Planting your garden is more than just going to the store and buying some. You need to make sure that the ones you buy will grow in the conditions in your area. There are plenty of resources to help you pick what plants are right for you.

Good Morning Answer Man, I can only dream of being like you... I graduated from high school with Jim back in 1966. His only dream was to be an actor and he has done a nice job at that. I can't seem to find an email or other address for him so we can invite him back for our 35th hs reunion. Can you help locate him? Many thanks,

Larry R.

A:

Dear Larry R.,

Well, if you keep breaking your curfew, your mom will keep getting pissed off. Why don't you compromise? Set a curfew somewhere between when you want yours and when your mom wants it. Make an effort to keep it, and soon your mom will gain your trust. Then, she'll be more inclined to push it back.

Q:

January 11, 2001

I've been separated from my husband for 5 months. On the senond month he took the car that I have been paying the payments on since 1997. He has never paid or help me pay on this vehicle ever. The problem I have is that the car and loan are in his name only. I have always paid by check when paying the payments therefore I could prove that I have been the only one paying for the vehicle. He has a SUV and a Pick up Truck. What should I do to try and get the car back or should I not try at all? We have not filed for a legal separation or a divorce at all. When I asked for the car back, he quoted me a price, basically telling me, you can buy it from me but I not giving it back to you. Help me.

There are plenty of remedies for snoring. They can be as simple as turning him onto his side when he really goes at it. Or, you can ask him to ask his doctor.

Dear MIKE,

VCD (video compact disc) is a format prevalent in Asia. It was never adopted here because studios felt that the quality was not good enough and DVD was on its way soon enough. Some DVD players can play VCDs though.

Dear Caitlin,

I don't think it really matters, but if you think it does, then I would make sure to order something light. Avoid things that are extremely messy, and avoid things with onions and other things that may make your breath stink.

Since he is out of school, you should put your foot down. The house belongs to you and your husband, and if your adult son is going to stay there, he should pay some rent. Hopefully, this and a long discussion will encourage him to find a job and so something with his life.

Dear JRLF,

Congratualtions! It sounds like your interview went well. Don't forget to send a personalized thank you note. Either a short handwritten note or a typed one will do. Thank your interviewer and mention something personal, just to show that you were paying attention. This shows that you are interested in the job, and makes you look good too.

A:

Dear JT4WIWF,

Tax Freedom Day occurs sometime in May. The basic concept is that if, starting on January 1, you use all your earnings to pay the taxes you accumulate over the entire year, it would take you until Tax Freedom Day to finish paying your taxes. What up wit dat?
